March is national peanut (allergy) month!

March 18, 2006 at 12:38 pm (social issues)

I found out today in the children’s section of my local library due to a large display of peanut & peanut butter books, that March is National Peanut Month.

Curiously, I’m not finding any information about peanuts online, but I thought I would share some OTHER National _____ Month themes that I found in about 2.7 seconds on google:

  1. Women’s History
  2. Spring
  3. Iditarod
  4. Nutrition
  5. Art & Music
  6. American Diabetes Alert Day
  7. American Red Cross Month
  8. Safe Spring Break
  9. Brain Awareness Week
  10. National Doctor’s Day
  11. National Save Your Vision Month
  12. School Breakfast Week,
  13. National Sleep Awareness Week
  14. National Sports Eye Safety Month
  15. Optimism Month (according to American Greetings, anyway)
  16. National Craft Month

I found about 100 (seriously) other “National _____ Month” campaigns, but the ones above are the ones I’m going to suggest the library consider adopting instead of health hazards like Peanut Butter that can end their young patrons’ lives in the name of momentary indulgence.

Or maybe March really SHOULD be National Peanut Allergy Month.  What do you say?  We could have National Wheat Allergy Month, National Egg Allergy Month…there are twelve months and only eight “big” ones according to FAAN.
