ALLERGY ALERT – UNDECLARED PEANUT AND ALMOND PROTEINS
IN CAFÉ TASSE NOIR PRALINÉ CHOCOLATE BAR

OTTAWA, November 23, 2006-The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to peanut or almond proteins not to consume the Café Tasse Noir Praliné chocolate bar described below. The affected product may contain peanut and almond proteins, which are not declared on the label.

Café Tasse Noir Praliné, product of Belgium, is sold as a 45 g bar bearing UPC 5 400219 505306. Only the lot code L05201329; ED: 30/05/07 is affected by this alert. This product has been distributed in Ontario and Quebec but may have been distributed nationally and is known to be sold through the internet.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to peanut or almond proteins.

The importer is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

ALLERGY ALERT – UNDECLARED ALMOND IN SCHÄR BRAND SNACK – GLUTEN FREE CHOCOLATE WAFERS WITH HAZELNUTS
OTTAWA, November 24, 2006-The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to almond protein not to consume the Schär brand Snack – gluten free chocolate wafers with hazelnuts described below. The affected product may contain almond protein which is not declared on the label.

The Schär brand Snack – gluten free chocolate wafers with hazelnuts, a product of Italy, is sold in a 105 g package bearing UPC 8 008698 005286 on the back panel. On some packages, the UPC on the back panel may be covered up with a sticker. These packages have a white sticker on the front panel which bears a different UPC 8 00869 80528 6. Both the UPC are affected. The package contains three individually wrapped 35 g Snack bars. Only the Best before date 21 06 07, lot code L161721 is affected by this alert. This product has been distributed nationally.

HEALTH HAZARD ALERT – ATHENA DONAIR DISTRIBUTORS LTD. DONAIR CONES MAY CONTAIN E. coli 0157:H7 BACTERIA

OTTAWA, November 24, 2006 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Athena Donair Distributors Ltd. are warning donair establishments and restaurants in Alberta not to use or sell Athena Donair Distributors Ltd. donair cones described below because the product may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria.

The affected product is Athena Donair Distributors Ltd., Raw Donair Beef Loaf Cones, sold frozen in cases, containing two 9 kg. donair cones, bearing the UPC 7 75151 88802 8 and the batch number 144. This product may have been sold directly from Athena Donair Distributors Ltd., Edmonton, Alberta.

There have been several reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Food contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. Some people may have seizures or strokes and some may need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis. Others may live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

The manufacturer is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
